AURELIA

A dragonfly-inspired wristwatch against a Blancpain brief.

THE BRIEF

Aurelia was developed against a Blancpain brief: a collection that embodies timeless elegance and natural simplicity, built around slim cases, double-stepped bezels, and refined dials.

The goal was to let ornament do structural work instead of decorative work, so the dial could carry richness without the case feeling busy.

CONCEPT

The design is inspired by a dragonfly, with its vibrant wings reflected on the dial and the play of light across it adding delicacy.

A dragonfly carries both fragility and precision, exactly the pair a dress watch needs. The wings frame the central axis and let the numerals sit clean.

PROCESS
AURELIA
Final dial composition, dragonfly wings in diamond.

Reference sketches came from dragonfly anatomy: thorax, wing membrane, and tail proportion. These were abstracted into wing pairs that frame the central axis of the dial without crowding the Roman numerals.

MATERIAL

The watch has a stainless-steel case, a pale-blue crocodile leather strap, and natural diamonds set into the wings of the dragonfly.

Each material earns its place: steel for the case structure, leather for softness at the wrist, diamonds for optical life on the dial.

TECHNICAL
AURELIA
Case profile and top-view drawings.

Case and bezel profiles were developed in Rhino, with a double-stepped bezel adding depth to the silhouette without thickening the case.

Dimensions: 202 mm case span, 218 mm strap length.

OUTCOME
AURELIA

Worn, the watch reads as jewellery first and instrument second. The diamonds on the wings catch ambient light the way a dragonfly catches it mid-flight.
